In this series, we are going to discuss all aspects of the cases of joint osteoarthritis in accordance with the information shared by Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Bilgen, M.D., Specialist of Orthopedics and Traumatology. First, let’s stary by defining the joint osteoarthritis. Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Bilgen, M.D. defines the case of joint osteoarthritis as follows, “It is the common term that refers to the cases of calcification in the knee and hip joints which normally carry our weight. We use the term “osteoarthritis” when referring to this condition.”
Stating that the case of osteoarthritis is more common in the middle-aged or older patients (over 65-70), Orthopedist Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Bilgen, M.D. adds that the condition is caused by the loss of joint surfaces. According to Dr. Bilgen, this disease may be observed in younger patients in exceptional cases.
Joint Osteoarthritis in Younger Ages
Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Bilgen, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Private Medicabil Hospital explains the causes of joint osteoarthritis in younger patients as follows, “There may have been a fracture or infection within the joint. There may have been an inflammation within a near joint and that may have spread around or the condition may have emerged early due to rough use of the joints. Rough usage of the knee or hip joints are more common among the homemakers.”
Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Bilgen also emphasizes that the conditions such as frequent use of the knees, climbing stairs too much during the day, taking too long walks, or excessive exercising may actually cause cartilage abrasion on our load-bearing joints.
In our next article, we are going to focus on the joint pain among the middle-aged patients caused by the joint osteoarthritis.
