Bebeklerde Kalça Çıkığı

In this series, we are going to focus on the cases of hip dislocation where we provide a deep analysis on the issue in light of the information conveyed by Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Bilgen, M.D., Specialist of Orthopedics and Traumatology during his appearance in the Olay TV’s Prescription (Reçete) Show. Here’s our first article in this series, titled “Hip Dislocation in Infants, Diagnosis and Symptoms.”

Causes of Hip Dislocation in Infants

Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Bilgen, M.D., Specialist of Orthopedics and Traumatology points out that the hip dislocation is a condition that begins in the womb, i.e. intrauterine phase. Also stating that the cases of hip dislocation may be caused by many reasons from a baby’s position in the mother’s womb, to the hereditary tendency in the family tree, Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Bilgen, M.D. emphasizes that the process of diagnosis and treatment of the cases of hip dislocation in the children is monitored by the specialist of pediatric orthopedics.

How to Diagnose Hip Dislocation in Infants?

Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Bilgen, M.D., Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Private Medicabil Hospital warns all parents. The most important thing to consider here is: “How to diagnose hip dislocation in infants? The preventive treatment requires the infants to be examined by a pediatrician as soon as they are born. If possible, it would be a great benefit should the infant is examined by a specialist of orthopedics and traumatology. Therefore, it would be possible to detect any problem, if any, and the proper treatment may be planned thanks to the early diagnosis. The parents should not skip the periodic examinations for the first 6 months upon their infant’s birth. Additionally, the parents are advised to consume extra diapers, keep their infants’ legs open, and avoid bundle practices altogether.

Stating that such cases have become more exceptional as the society have become more conscious on the matter due to the warnings issued by the Ministry of Health, Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Bilgen, M.D. adds that the parents are no longer continue the traditional practices. However, there are still certain points that needs to be elevated. There may be some development deficiencies as a result of an infant’s position within the mother’s womb, genetic factors or hormonal shifts. If those deficiencies go undetected during the childhood, they may cause problems during the early adolescence, twenties, or thirties. At this point, early diagnosis and treatment is crucial.
