CAUSES OF JOINT PAIN LINKED WITH JOINT OSTEOARTHRITIS IN PATIENTS YOUNGER THAN 65
In our previous post (click here to read) we explained that the joint osteoarthritis usually occurs in middle aged or older patients and mentioned that the condition, especially in patients aged between 65 and 70, is linked with the erasure of the cartilage surface of the joints. However, in certain cases joint osteoarthritis may be observed in younger patient as well. In this post, we are going to give information on the joint pain linked with the joint osteoarthritis in younger people and potential causes of the condition. Prof. Dr. Ömer Bilgen, M.D., Specialist of Orthopedics and Traumatology expresses that the most cases of joint pain linked with osteoarthritis in younger people (aged between 30 and 35) is mainly caused by the developmental disorders. Additionally, improper use of the joints and being overweight are among the causes of this type of joint pain. Emphasizing the significance of being overweight as an underlying cause of this problem, Prof. Dr. Bilgen, M.D. argues that overweight people should incorporate sports or exercise into their daily activities, as it may reduce the load carried by the joints. Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Bilgen, M.D. underlines the fact that with each stem taken forward, a force of approximately 10 times of the bodyweight is absorbed by these joints. For example, a person weighing 80 kilograms retrieve a force of 800 – 1000 kilograms back from the ground with each step. The force reflected to the body passes through the ankles, knee joints and hip joints. On average, a person completes approximately 5 million moves in a year. The joints of the human body have been created to endure such load. However, overusing of the joints and not providing enough support with muscles to carry the surplus weight breaks down the joints. The results of the developmental disorders, congenital disorders, or lack of proper development manifest themselves as osteoarthritis after long years.
In our next post we will explain the symptoms of joint osteoarthritis to continue our series. NOTE: The contents of this page are exclusively provided for informative purposes. For diagnosis and treatment please visit your physician.
