Orthopedist Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Bilgen, M.D., describes Prosthetic surgery as follows: “We call the process of adding artificial joints to the patients who have trouble walking, suffers from aches in the patients’ hip or knee and impaired daily activities as Prosthetic surgery.” According to Prof. Dr. Bilgen, the aim of fitting a modern and durable material that can perform similar movements of a healthy joint; is to make the patients’ daily activities better and with higher quality. According to the conclusion of a research made in the United States of America regarding this matter, Prof. Dr. Bilgen, who emphasizes the importance of the Prosthetic surgery, has also indicated that Prosthetic surgery is a better operation than a bypass surgery for the patients who became incapable to make his/her daily activities. Stating that a large field such as orthopedics and traumatology has 30 years of experience in the field of arthroplasty (prosthetic surgery), Bilgen states that it is very important for the physician to be conscious about the extent to which the surgery to be performed will benefit the patient and this should be explained to the patient in detail. Before the prosthesis surgery, some questions must be answered precisely. With this regard; it is very important in terms of the well-being of the operation that the adequateness of the environment that hosts the surgery is sufficient, that there are no problems regarding the way of the surgery, that there are no other problems in the patients’ body that may hinder the operation.
